Walk-In Freezers: What to Specify
A walk-in freezer is built from the same insulated panels and doors as a walk-in cooler, but every component has to cope with a much larger temperature difference. These are the points we check with you before quoting a walk-in freezer or a cooler/freezer combination:
- Panel thickness: freezer rooms use thicker panels than coolers. Our panels range from 1.6 to 6 in (40–150 mm); we recommend the thickness for your target temperature and room size.
- Freezer doors: 80 mm PIR insulation for freezers down to 5 °F (−15 °C), with a reinforced low-temperature frame profile that has a housing for frost resistance, to help prevent ice at the threshold.
- Door type: hinged swing doors for rooms opened a few times an hour, sliding doors for wide openings, and high-speed doors for constant traffic.
- Combination rooms: a cooler and a freezer can share one insulated structure, with thicker panels and freezer doors on the freezer side.
To quote a walk-in freezer we need: the inside dimensions (or the space available), the target temperature, the number and type of doors, and whether the room is indoors or outdoors.
Walk-in cooler and freezer supply and installation
We supply complete walk-in cooler and freezer packages (insulated panels, doors and profiles), and we also offer installation. Send us the project location, room size and target temperature, and we will confirm installation availability and scope with your quote. If you already work with an installer or refrigeration contractor, we can supply the materials only.
FAQs
What is the difference between a walk-in cooler and a walk-in freezer?
A walk-in cooler keeps fresh products above freezing, while a walk-in freezer keeps frozen products below 0 °F. Because the temperature difference with the outside air is much larger, freezers need thicker panels and 80 mm freezer doors with a low-temperature frame profile.
Can I combine a cooler and a freezer in one walk-in?
Yes. Cooler and freezer compartments can be built in one insulated panel structure, using thicker panels and freezer doors for the freezer side.
Do you install walk-in coolers and freezers?
Yes. Besides supplying the panels, doors and complete walk-in packages, we offer installation services. Tell us where your project is located and what it includes, and we will confirm installation availability and scope with your quote.
