Between the Port of Savannah and a historic district full of restaurants and hotels, Savannah needs cold storage at every scale — from a single walk-in behind a River Street kitchen to insulated panel rooms for import cargo. MIKE'S PANELS supplies the panels, doors and complete walk-in packages, sized to your space and temperature.
Cold storage needs in Savannah
The Port of Savannah's Garden City Terminal has more than 3,000 reefer plugs for refrigerated containers, and the Georgia Ports Authority reports about 2.4 million square feet of off-terminal cold storage within three miles of the terminal. Cold rooms in the port and logistics area are opened constantly by forklifts, while Savannah's restaurants and hotels need dependable walk-ins.
What to specify for Savannah projects
- Port and logistics rooms: high-speed rapid roll doors for busy openings and sliding doors for wide openings with racks.
- Freezer storage: thicker PIR sandwich panels on walls and ceiling, with 80 mm freezer doors rated down to 5 °F (−15 °C).
- Restaurant and hotel walk-ins: coolers with 60 mm swing doors and freezer compartments with 80 mm doors.

Planning a cold room in Savannah
Coastal Georgia is humid for most of the year, and the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. Keep cold rooms indoors where possible and use freezer doors with a reinforced low-temperature frame profile to help stop ice forming at the threshold.
Georgia's hot, humid summers and mild winters mean refrigeration works hardest from May to September; tight doors and the right panel thickness have the biggest effect on energy use.
